When spring and summer rolls around in California, you can bet that I'll be rocking the sandals nearly every day of the season. Unfortunately, as a dance instructor my feet tend to look not-so-good to say the least. When I was in college (and didn't have bills to pay), I would go get a pedicure nearly every week with my trusty partner-in-crime Stephanie to make sure my feet were always sandal-ready. Unfortunately, now that I'm an adult and have more things to pay for, it's just not in my budget to get a $20+ pedicure on any sort of regular basis.
A few years ago, one of my goals was to learn how to give myself a proper pedicure. Imagine my delight when this beautiful package arrived on my doorstep. I've been playing around with these products for a few weeks, and I feel like I have the pedicure process down to an art form. Follow these steps to get your feet ready for summer!
Step One: Soak
Soaking your feet in warm water is essential before exfoliation. I like to soak my feet in warm water for 10-20 minutes to allow my skin to soften. I also recommend adding a gentle liquid soap, Epsom salts, or bath oils to the warm water.
Step Two: Exfoliate
After your skin is softened, use your favorite exfoliating product to remove the dead skin from your feet. A pumice stone or crystalline pedicure wands are ideal for removing calluses and excess skin quickly and easily.
Step Three: Moisturize
Be sure to slather on your favorite lotion or healing ointment to protect your newly exposed skin and to keep your feet soft and smooth. To lock in the moisture, put on a pair of socks over your lotion at night before you to go to bed. It feels weird at first, but you'll wake up with the softest feet ever!
Step Four: Polish
Add your favorite base coat, nail polish, and top coat to add the finishing touch to your summer pedicure.
